The first daylight hours of the new millennium painted from the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town showing Robben Island in the middle of Table Bay where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Duncan dock enlarged with a new break wall and Signal Hill. This northerly view shows clouds moving west which brought occasional showers later in the day. Doomsday prophets had predicted aircraft falling from the sky and the world's computers all crashing when this fine hour arrived so I wanted to be in my favorite spot in the world when this happened.
I have climbed Table Mountain many times in my youth and have always sworn that I would never take the cable car to the top. However, this was the first time that I rode in the cable car, together with hundreds of others on New Year's Eve in order that we witness the rising sun on the first day of the new millennium over Table Bay and Robben Island.
